File checking
Files are checked to ensure that the advice has been given within the firms and advisers 'Scope of Permissions', ensure that the sales process has been correctly followed and the file is correctly documented so that in the event of any regulatory scrutiny or a complaint received you are in the best position.
Complaint handling
To provide support and guidance, ensuring that the timescales are adhered to and an objective review of the file is achieved.
CPD
Advisers need to demonstrate that Continous Professional Development (CPD) is undertaken and recorded. CATS can objectively review the advisers CPD file and provide comment as to whether the activity undertaken is sufficient to demonstrate that the adviser is aware of market developments and knowledge is being maintained. CATS will also discuss with the adviser their future self development, whether that be in the form of skills development or knowledge.
Procedures
Every firm requires a Compliance Manual and T&C procedures to be recorded. CATS can help you write the documents when the practice is first established and help to ensure that the procedures remain relevant and up to date on an annual basis.
Observed live calls/ Roleplays
By undertaking observed calls, whether it be by way of a roleplay or a live client call, it helps to ensure that the adviser is adhering to FSA regulations in a compliant manner and that the adviser has not slipped into 'bad habits'. Feedback can also be provided on selling techniques and ideas. This exercise should not only demonstrate that ongoing competency is being maintained but that the adviser is not placing the company at a reputational risk.
